Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before taking this medicine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You should not use Velphoro if you are allergic to sucroferric oxyhydroxide.<\/p>\n<p>To make sure Velphoro is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:<\/p>\n<p>iron overload disorder (hemochromatosis);<\/p>\n<p>liver disease;<\/p>\n<p>a stomach or intestinal disorder; or<\/p>\n<p>stomach or intestinal surgery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask a doctor before using Velphoro if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This medicine is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How should I take Velphoro?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take Velphoro exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label.<\/p>\n<p>Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Velphoro works best if you take it with meals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The chewable tablet must be chewed or crushed before you swallow it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While using Velphoro, you may need frequent blood tests.<\/p>\n<p>Store this medicine in the original container at room temperature away from moisture and heat.<\/p>\n<p>Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens if I miss a dose?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose.\u00a0Do not\u00a0take two doses at one time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens if I overdose?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.<\/p>\n<h4>What to avoid<\/h4>\n<p>Follow your doctor&#8217;s instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.<\/p>\n<h4>Velphoro side effects<\/h4>\n<p>Get emergency medical help if you have\u00a0signs of an allergic reaction to Velphoro:\u00a0hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Common Velphoro side effects may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>diarrhea; or darker color in your bowel movements.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur.<\/p>\n<p>Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.<\/p>\n<p>You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What other drugs will affect Velphoro?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you take levothyroxine:\u00a0take it at least 4 hours before you take Velphoro.<\/p>\n<p>If you take doxycycline, aspirin, or cephalexin:\u00a0take it at least 1 hour before you take Velphoro.<\/p>\n<p>Other drugs may interact with sucroferric oxyhydroxide, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.<\/p>\n<p>Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Velphoro is a phosphate binder that helps prevent\u00a0hypocalcemia (low levels of calcium in the blood)\u00a0caused by elevated phosphorus.
