What Zencin is and what it is used for<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Zencin contains azithromycin which is one of a group of antibiotics known as macrolides.<br \/>\nIt is used to treat bacterial infections caused by micro organisms such as bacteria. These<br \/>\ninfections include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Chest infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia.<br \/>\nInfections in your sinuses, throat, tonsils or ears.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections, e.g. infection of the hair follicles (folliculitis),<br \/>\nbacterial infection of the skin and its deeper layers (cellulitis), skin infection with shiny red<br \/>\nswelling (erysipelas).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Sexually transmitted disease caused by organisms called Chlamydia trachomatis and<br \/>\nNeisseria gonorrhoea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. What you need to know before you take Zencin<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Do not take Zencin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>if you are allergic to azithromycin, any other macrolide (such as erythromycin or clarithromycin) or ketolide antibiotic or any of the ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6). An allergic reaction may cause skin rash or wheezing.<\/li>\n<li>Warnings and precautions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Zencin if you:<br \/>\nhave ever had a serious allergic reaction causing swelling of the face and throat, possibly<br \/>\nwith breathing problems, rash, fever, swollen glands or increase in eosinophils (certain type<br \/>\nof white blood cells).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>have severe kidney problems: your doctor may alter the dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>have liver problems: your doctor may need to monitor your liver function or stop the treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>have myasthenia gravis (localized muscle weakness).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>have been diagnosed with a neurological disease, which is a disease of the brain or<br \/>\nnervous system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>have mental, emotional or behavioral problems.<br \/>\nare taking medicines known as ergot alkaloids (such as ergotamine), which are used to treat<br \/>\nmigraine: azithromycin is not recommended (see \u2018Other medicines and Zencin below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Since azithromycin may increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythm please tell your<br \/>\ndoctor if you have any of the following problems before taking this medicine (especially you are female or elderly):<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>you are aware of ever being diagnosed to have prolonged QT interval (a heart condition, shown on an electro-cardiogram or ECG machine): azithromycin is not recommended.<br \/>\nare aware that you have a slow or irregular heart beat, or reduced heart function (heart<br \/>\nfailure): azithromycin is not recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>know that you have low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood: azithromycin is<br \/>\nnot recommended.<br \/>\nare taking medicines known as antiarrhythmics (e.g. quinidine, procainamide, dofetilide,<br \/>\namiodarone, sotalol: used to treat abnormal heart rhythms), cisapride (used to treat stomach<br \/>\nproblems) or terfenadine (an antihistamine that is used to treat allergies), or antipsychotic<br \/>\nagents (e.g. pimozide), antidepressants (e.g. citalopram), some antibiotics (e.g. moxifloxacin,<br \/>\nlevofloxacin) that can affect the heart rhythm: Zencin is not recommended (see \u2018Other<br \/>\nmedicines and Zencin below)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you develop severe and persistent diarrhea during or after treatment, especially if<br \/>\nyou notice blood or mucus, tell your doctor immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If your symptoms persist after the end of your treatment with Zencin, or if you notice<br \/>\nany new and persistent symptoms, contact your doctor.<br \/>\nOther medicines and Zencin<br \/>\nTell your doctor before taking Zencin, if you are taking any of the medicines listed<br \/>\nbelow:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Warfarin or any similar medicine to prevent blood clots: concomitant use can increase the<br \/>\nrisk of bleeding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Ergotamine, dihydroergotamine (used to treat migraine): ergotism (ie. itching in the limbs,<br \/>\nmuscle cramps and gangrene of hands and feet due to poor blood circulation) may occur.<br \/>\nConcomitant use is therefore not recommended.<br \/>\nCiclosporin (used to suppress the immune system to prevent and treat rejection of an organ<br \/>\nor bone marrow transplant): if concomitant use is required, your doctor will check your blood<br \/>\nlevels regularly and may adapt the dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Digoxin (for heart failure): digoxin levels may increase. Your doctor will check your blood levels.<br \/>\nColchicine (used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Antacids (for indigestion): Zencin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after<br \/>\nthe antacid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Cisapride (for stomach problems), terfenadine (used to treat hay fever): concomitant use<br \/>\nwith azithromycin may cause heart disorders.<br \/>\nMedicines for irregular heart beat (called anti-arrythmics), or to lower cholesterol (called<br \/>\nstatins) such as atorvastatin.<br \/>\nAlfentanil (used for narcosis) or astemizole (used to treat hay fever): concomitant use with<br \/>\nazithromycin may increase the effect of these medicinal products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other<br \/>\nmedicines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Pregnancy and breast-feeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a<br \/>\nbaby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.<br \/>\nPregnancy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>There is insufficient information regarding the safety of azithromycin during pregnancy.<br \/>\nConsequently, Azithromycin is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to become<br \/>\npregnant.
