What is Palbociclib used for :<\/b><\/p>\n
Palbociclib is a medication that is used to treat hormone receptor positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer (type of breast cancer that is in advanced stages or has already spread to other parts of the body) in the following cases:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0In combination with an aromatase inhibitor (another cancer medication) as initial endocrine based therapy in women after menopause<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0In combination with fulvestrant (another cancer medication) in women who suffered from disease progression after receiving endocrine therapy<\/p>\n
Do not take Palbociclib<\/p>\n
If you are allergic to Palbociclib or any of the ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had.<\/p>\n
Possible side effects :<\/b><\/p>\n
Possible side effects of Palbociclib include signs of an allergic reaction, like rash, signs of neutropenia (low neutrophils level which are responsible for fighting bacterial infections), like, chills, fever, sweating, toothache, sore throat, mouth sores, abdominal pain, pain or burning when urinating, frequent urination, diarrhea, cough and difficulty breathing, signs of low red blood cell counts and low platelet counts, like, dizziness, bruising more easily, bleeding, difficulty breathing and weakness. Common side effects include infections, diarrhea, feeling tired, loss of appetite, hair loss or hair thinning, abnormal liver blood tests, nausea, rash, vomiting, sore mouth and fertility problems in males.<\/p>\n
Other medicines and Palbociclib :<\/b><\/p>\n
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications including vitamins, prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements. Keep a list of the medications that you take.<\/p>\n
How to take Palbociclib\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
Adults:<\/p>\n
Recommended initial dose is 125 mg orally once daily for 21 days followed by 7 days off treatment. Your doctor may recommend dose reductions or interruptions based on your response and tolerability to the medication.<\/p>\n
Children:<\/p>\n
It is not known yet if this medication is effective and safe in children.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Take tablet with food in combination with aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant (cancer medications).<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Take tablet with a full glass of water.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Take at the same time every day.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Do not stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Do not take cracked, broken or damaged capsules.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, open or chew the capsules.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Grapefruit may increase the level of the medication in the blood. Do not take grapefruit and grapefruit products during therapy with this medication.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Take your medication as directed by your doctor.<\/p>\n
How to store Palbociclib :<\/b><\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Store at 20 to 25\u00b0C<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Keep out of the reach of children and pets<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Do not use beyond the expiry date mentioned on the box<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Keep medication in its original pack to protect it from moisture<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Do not use damaged pills<\/p>\n
