medicine works by inhibiting the growth of abnormal cells in the diseases listed below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>This includes certain types of cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Glivec is used to treat adults and children with:<\/p>\n<p>Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Leukemia is blood cancer that affects the white blood cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>White blood cells usually help the body fight\u00a0infections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Chronic myelogenous leukemia is a form of leukemia in which certain abnormal white blood cells (called myeloid cells) begin to grow out of control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Leukemia is a\u00a0cancer\u00a0that affects white blood cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>These style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>This is a group of blood disorders where certain blood cells begin to grow out of control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec prevents the growth of these cells in a specific subset of these diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and\/or chronic\u00a0eosinophilic\u00a0leukemia (CEL):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>These are blood disorders in which some blood cells (called\u00a0eosinophils\u00a0) begin to grow out of control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec prevents the growth of these cells in a specific subset of these diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gastrointestinal stromal tumors\u00a0(GIST):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Which is a form of cancer in the stomach and intestinal system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>it is caused by uncontrolled cell growth in the supporting tissue in these organs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance (DFSP):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>DFSP is a form of cancer in the subcutaneous tissue, where certain cells begin to grow out of control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec prevents the growth of these cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>In the rest of this package insert, the abbreviations will be used when the diseases are mentioned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Ask your doctor if you have any questions about how Glivec works or why this medicine has been prescribed for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec will only be prescribed to you by a doctor who has experience in using medicines to treat blood cancer or cancerous tumors called solid tumours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Follow all instructions from your doctor carefully,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Even if they differ from the general information in this leaflet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do not use Glivec:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you are allergic to imatinib or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If this applies to you,\u00a0tell your doctor before using Glivec.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Ask your doctor for advice if you think you may be allergic but are not sure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How To Use:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>The doctor has prescribed Glivec because you suffer from a serious illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec can help fight this disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>It is important that you do this for as long as the doctor or pharmacist tells you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Do not stop treatment with Glivec unless your doctor tells you to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If it is not possible to take the medicine as the doctor has told you, or you feel that you no longer need it, contact the doctor immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When and how to use Glivec:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Glivec should be taken with a meal.\u00a0This will help protect against stomach problems when taking Glivec.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>The tablets are swallowed whole with a large glass of water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are unable to swallow the tablets they can be dissolved in a glass of water or apple juice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Use approx.\u00a050 ml for each 100 mg tablet or 200 ml for each 400 mg tablet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Stir with a spoon until the tablets are completely dissolved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>When everything is dissolved, drink the entire contents of the glass immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>There may be traces of dissolved tablets left in the glass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you take too much Glivec:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Contact a doctor\u00a0immediately\u00a0if you have accidentally taken too many tablets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>You may need medical follow-up.\u00a0Take the package with the medicine with you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have forgotten to take Glivec:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember.\u00a0However, if it is almost time to take the next dose, you should skip the missed dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Then continue with your regular dosing
