Medication name: Lamisil 1% Gel contains Terbinafine hydrochloride (1%), an antifungal agent used for the treatment of fungal skin infections.
Each tube contains 15 grams of gel for external use only.
Drug class: Topical antifungal
Use: Lamisil Gel is used to treat athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis), and fungal infections between fingers and toes.
It helps relieve symptoms such as itching, redness, burning, and cracking of the skin.
How it works: Terbinafine works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which interferes with the formation of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to fungal cell death and clearance of infection.
Dosage and administration:
-
Clean and dry the affected area before application.
-
Apply a thin layer of gel once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor.
-
Gently rub in until absorbed.
-
Continue use for the full treatment duration (usually 1–2 weeks) even if symptoms improve early.
-
Wash hands after applying.
Side effects: Common side effects include mild burning, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site. Rarely, allergic skin reactions may occur.
Precautions:
-
For external use only.
-
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
-
Do not apply to open wounds or severely damaged skin.
-
Consult a doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
-
If symptoms persist beyond the treatment period, seek medical advice.
Storage: Store below 25 °C, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
