Use:
This medication is used to treat acute diarrhea in infants and children.
It helps reduce excessive fluid loss through the intestines, restoring normal stool consistency and preventing dehydration.
It can be used alongside oral rehydration therapy to control diarrhea caused by infections, dietary changes, or mild digestive disturbances.

How it works:
The active ingredient, racecadotril, works by inhibiting an enzyme called enkephalinase in the intestinal wall.
This helps preserve the natural enkephalins that regulate fluid secretion, reducing the amount of water and electrolytes lost in the stool.
Unlike other antidiarrheal medicines, racecadotril does not slow bowel movement—it acts only to reduce excessive fluid secretion, making it safe and well tolerated in children.

Dosage and administration:
For infants and young children, the usual dose is one sachet (10 mg) every 8 hours, given before meals, or as directed by a doctor.
Empty the contents of the sachet into a small amount of water, formula, or soft food and give it immediately.
Continue treatment until diarrhea stops, but do not exceed 7 days without medical advice.
It should always be used in combination with oral rehydration fluids to prevent dehydration.

Side effects:
Hidrasec is generally well tolerated.
Mild side effects may include rash, nausea, or abdominal pain.
Serious allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat are very rare but require immediate medical attention.

Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to racecadotril or any of the ingredients.
Consult a doctor before use in premature infants or newborns.
Seek medical advice if diarrhea persists beyond a few days, is accompanied by blood in the stool, fever, or signs of dehydration (such as dry mouth or reduced urination).
This medicine is intended for short-term use only and should not replace rehydration therapy.

Storage:
Store below 25 °C in a dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight.
Keep sachets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
