• • Mirtazapine is an antidepressant.

• • it’s not exactly clear how MIRTAZAPINE treats depression, but it appears to boost certain chemicals in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine).

• • These chemicals may play a role in mood.

• • The way this medication works is still not fully understood.

• • It is thought to positively affect communication between nerve cells in the central nervous system and/or restore chemical balance in the brain.

• • Mirtazapine is used to treat major depressive disorder in adults.

• • It is not known if mirtazapine is safe and effective for use to treat MDD(Major depressive disorder) in children.

• • MIRTAZAPINE may work faster than other antidepressants, especially for insomnia and anxiety.

• • Many people feel some improvement shortly after starting the medication, but it can take up to 6 weeks before you feel the full benefits.

How To Use:

Initial dose:

• • 15 mg orally once a day at bedtime.

Maintenance dose:

• • 15 to 45 mg orally once a day.

Maximum dose:

• • 45 mg/day.

Note:

• • May increase the dose every 1 to 2 weeks to a maximum 45 mg/day according to patient response.

• Patients should be periodically reassessed to determine the need for continued use of this drug.
