Use:
This medication is used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea by slowing down the movement of the intestines.
It helps reduce the frequency of bowel movements, improve stool consistency, and relieve abdominal discomfort associated with diarrhea.

How it works:
The active ingredient, loperamide, acts on the opioid receptors in the intestinal wall.
It reduces the speed of intestinal contractions, allowing more time for water and electrolytes to be absorbed from the stool.
This helps make stools firmer and decreases the urgency and frequency of bowel movements.

Dosage and administration:
For adults, the usual starting dose is two capsules (4 mg) initially, followed by one capsule (2 mg) after each loose stool, as needed.
Do not exceed 8 capsules (16 mg) per day.
For children over 12 years, follow your doctor’s advice for dosing.
Swallow the capsules whole with water — do not chew.
If symptoms persist for more than 48 hours, stop treatment and consult a doctor.

Side effects:
Imodium is generally well tolerated.
Possible side effects include constipation, stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, or dry mouth.
Serious but rare effects include severe abdominal swelling, allergic reactions, or irregular heartbeat — seek medical help immediately if these occur.

Precautions:
Do not use in cases of acute dysentery (with blood in stools or high fever) or bacterial infections such as Salmonella or Clostridium difficile.
Avoid use if allergic to loperamide or any of the capsule’s ingredients.
Consult a doctor before use if you have liver disease, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Do not take with other medications that slow intestinal movement unless prescribed.
Stop taking if constipation or abdominal swelling develops.

Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Keep in the original packaging and out of reach of children.
Do not use after the expiry date printed on the package.
