Daktarin 20 mg Oral Gel 40 gm

Medication name: Daktarin Oral Gel 40 g contains Miconazole (20 mg/g), an antifungal and antibacterial oral gel used to treat fungal infections of the mouth and throat.

Drug class: Antifungal (Imidazole derivative)

Use: Daktarin Oral Gel is used to treat oral thrush (oropharyngeal candidiasis) and other fungal infections of the mouth, gums, and throat caused by Candida albicans and other fungi.

It can also help prevent secondary bacterial infections.

How it works: Miconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane.

This weakens the membrane, leading to fungal cell death and clearance of infection.

It also exhibits antibacterial activity against some Gram-positive bacteria, helping reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Dosage and administration:

• Apply the gel four times daily (after meals).

• Using a clean finger or spatula, spread the gel evenly over the affected area.

• Keep the gel in contact with the mouth tissues for as long as possible—do not swallow immediately.

• For infants, apply small amounts to avoid choking.

• Continue use for at least one week after symptoms resolve to prevent recurrence.

Side effects: Common side effects include mild irritation, nausea, or an altered taste. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling may occur.

Precautions:

• For oral use only.

• Avoid swallowing large amounts.

• Use with caution in patients with liver disease or those taking warfarin, as interactions may increase bleeding risk.

• Consult your doctor before using if pregnant or breastfeeding.
