What Triptorelin is used for:

Triptorelin belongs to a group of medicines called gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. Triptorelin is similar to the gonadotropin releasing hormone which occurs naturally in your body.
In men: Triptorelin lowers the levels of the hormone, testosterone. Both Triptorelin 3mg and 11.25mg are used to treat advanced prostate cancer.
In women: Triptorelin reduces estrogen levels.
Triptorelin 3mg is used to treat:
• Endometriosis – a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows in other places.
• Uterine fibroids – abnormal benign growth of cells in your uterus.
• Female infertility.
• Early stage hormone responsive breast cancer in pre-menopausal women who have received chemotherapy. Triptorelin is used together with hormone medicines. You will also be asked to take:
o A medicine called ‘tamoxifen’ – you will be asked to take this medicine if you are at high risk of the cancer coming back or
o An ‘aromatase inhibitor’ medicine such as ‘exemestane’ – you will have treatment with Triptorelin for at least 6 to 8 weeks before you start taking this medicine.
Triptorelin 11.25 mg is used to treat:
• Endometriosis – a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows in other places.
In children: Triptorelin 11.25mg is used to treat puberty that occurs at a very young age (Precocious Puberty).

Do not take Triptorelin if:

• If you are allergic to triptorelin or similar types of drugs (other gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you are a man and your prostate cancer has spread to your spine or if the tumor is pressing on your spine.

Warnings and precautions:

Tell your doctor about all of your health conditions, including, if you have:
• depressed mood
• anything wrong with you that affects your bones, such as osteoporosis.
• diabetes.
• have any heart or blood vessel conditions.
• A benign tumor of the pituitary gland that you were unaware of, this may be discovered during treatment with Triptorelin.

How to store Triptorelin:

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the vial and on the outer box. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
• Once opened/reconstituted, immediate use is recommended.
• This medicine should not be stored above 25°C.
• Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
