Medication name: Ezora 40 mg Esomeprazole 28 Capsules
Drug class: Proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
Use:
This medication is used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
It treats conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach and duodenal ulcers, and inflammation of the esophagus caused by acid reflux.
It is also prescribed for the prevention and treatment of ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and as part of therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori infection when combined with antibiotics.
How it works:
The active ingredient, esomeprazole, works by blocking the enzyme in the stomach wall (the proton pump) responsible for secreting gastric acid.
By inhibiting this enzyme, it significantly decreases acid production, allowing damaged tissues in the stomach and esophagus to heal and reducing symptoms like heartburn and discomfort.
Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is one capsule (40 mg) once daily, taken before or with food, as directed by a doctor.
The capsule should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed or crushed.
Treatment duration varies depending on the condition being treated — typically 4 to 8 weeks for GERD or ulcers.
In certain cases, your doctor may recommend continued maintenance therapy or dose adjustments.
Side effects:
Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and flatulence.
Less common effects may include dizziness, dry mouth, or mild rash.
Serious side effects such as severe allergic reactions, persistent diarrhea, or signs of low magnesium (muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat) are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to esomeprazole, omeprazole, or other proton pump inhibitors.
Consult your doctor before use if you have severe liver disease, osteoporosis, low magnesium levels, or are taking medications such as warfarin, clopidogrel, or antifungal drugs.
Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures or vitamin B12 deficiency.
Use only under medical supervision during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C in a dry place, away from direct heat and moisture.
Keep the capsules in their original blister pack until use.
Keep out of the reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
