Olfen Gel 50 g

Medication name: Olfen Gel 50 g contains Diclofenac sodium (1%), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated as a topical gel to provide fast relief from pain, swelling, and inflammation in muscles and joints.

Drug class: Topical NSAID / Analgesic and anti-inflammatory

Use: Olfen Gel is used for the local treatment of musculoskeletal pain, including:

• Muscle strains, sprains, and sports injuries

• Back, neck, and shoulder pain

• Tendonitis, bursitis, and soft tissue inflammation

• Joint pain due to arthritis or rheumatism

How it works: Diclofenac works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which reduces the formation of prostaglandins, the substances responsible for pain, swelling, and inflammation. When applied topically, it acts directly on the affected area, offering targeted pain relief with minimal systemic side effects.

Dosage and administration:

• Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected area 3–4 times daily.

• Gently massage until completely absorbed.

• Wash hands after application (unless treating the hands).

• Do not apply to broken or infected skin.

• Avoid covering with tight dressings unless instructed by a doctor.

Side effects: Common side effects include mild skin redness, itching, or irritation at the application site. Rarely, allergic reactions or photosensitivity (skin rash from sun exposure) may occur.

Precautions:

• For external use only.

• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and open wounds.

• Do not use concurrently with other NSAID-containing products.

• Avoid direct sunlight or tanning on treated areas.

• Not recommended during the last trimester of pregnancy.

• Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, or have asthma, ulcers, or kidney/liver problems.

Storage: Store below 25 °C, in a cool, dry place, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
