Sutent contains the active substance sunitinib, which is a protein kinase inhibitor and is used in the treatment of cancer.

    • It prevents the activity of a special group of proteins, which are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Sutent is used in the treatment of adults with the following types of cancer:

    • Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), a type of stomach and bowel cancer , where imatinib (another cancer medicine ) no longer works, or if you cannot take imatinib.
    • Metastatic renal cell carcinoma (MRCC), a type of kidney cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
    • Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pnet) (tumors of hormone-producing cells in the pancreas) that are advanced or cannot be removed with surgery.
    • Ask your doctor if you have any questions about how Sutent works or why the medicine has been prescribed for you.

How To Use:

    • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
    • Contact a doctor if you are unsure.
    • The doctor will prescribe the dose that is right for you, and the dose will depend on the type of cancer to be treated.

If you are being treated for:

    • GIST or MRCC: The usual dose is 50 mg once daily for 28 days (4 weeks), followed by 14 days (2 weeks) of rest (no medication), given in 6-week cycles.
    • Pnet: The usual dose is 37.5 mg once daily without a break in treatment.
    • Your doctor will decide what dose to take and if and when you need to stop treatment with Sutent.
    • Sutent can be taken with or without food.

If you take too much Sutent:

    • If you accidentally take too many capsules, contact your doctor immediately. You may need medical help.

If you have forgotten to take Sutent:

  • You should not take a double dose to replace a missed dose.
