Medication name: Glipten Sitagliptin 100 mg Tablets × 28
Drug class: Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor / Oral antidiabetic agent
Use:
This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It helps improve the body’s natural regulation of blood sugar, particularly after meals, and is prescribed when lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise are not sufficient.
Glipten may be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic medicines such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin.
How it works:
The active ingredient, sitagliptin, inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which is responsible for breaking down incretin hormones.
By blocking this enzyme, sitagliptin increases incretin levels, enhancing insulin secretion and reducing glucagon release after meals.
This helps lower both fasting and post-meal blood sugar without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia or weight gain.
Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is one tablet (100 mg) once daily, taken with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew.
Patients with kidney impairment may require dose adjustments as prescribed by their doctor.
Take it at the same time each day for consistent effect and optimal blood sugar control.
Side effects:
Glipten is generally well tolerated.
Possible mild side effects include headache, sore throat, mild digestive discomfort, or upper respiratory symptoms.
Rarely, it may cause pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), allergic reactions, or joint pain.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience persistent stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling of the face or throat.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to sitagliptin or any component of the medication.
Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver problems, or a history of pancreatitis.
Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption and continue regular blood sugar monitoring.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
