Use:
This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It helps improve insulin response and reduce excess glucose production when lifestyle measures such as diet and exercise are not sufficient.
Vdia may be prescribed alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs, including metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

How it works:
The active ingredient, vildagliptin, inhibits the enzyme DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4), which breaks down incretin hormones.
By blocking this enzyme, vildagliptin increases the activity of incretins, leading to enhanced insulin release from the pancreas and decreased glucagon secretion after meals.
This helps stabilize blood sugar levels without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia or weight gain.

Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is 50 mg once or twice daily, depending on whether it is used alone or with other antidiabetic medications:

Monotherapy or with metformin/thiazolidinedione: 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening).

With sulfonylurea: 50 mg once daily in the morning.
Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
Always take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent control of blood sugar levels.

Side effects:
Vdia is generally well tolerated.
Mild side effects may include headache, dizziness, constipation, or slight gastrointestinal discomfort.
Rarely, liver enzyme elevation, ankle swelling, or joint pain may occur.
Stop the medication and seek medical advice if you experience abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or persistent fatigue — possible signs of liver or pancreatic issues.

Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to vildagliptin or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, heart problems, or a history of pancreatitis.
Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function is recommended during treatment.
Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed by your doctor.
