Medication name: Vipidia Alogliptin 12.5 mg Tablets × 28
Drug class: Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor / Oral antidiabetic agent
Use:
This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It helps lower blood sugar when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient and may be prescribed alone or together with other antidiabetic medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin.
How it works:
The active ingredient, alogliptin, works by blocking the enzyme DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4), which is responsible for breaking down incretin hormones.
These hormones help regulate insulin and glucagon levels after meals — increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucose release from the liver.
This mechanism helps improve blood sugar control without causing weight gain or severe hypoglycemia when used alone.
Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is one tablet (12.5 mg) once daily, taken with or without food.
For patients with kidney impairment, your doctor may adjust the dose according to kidney function.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Do not skip doses or stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Side effects:
Vipidia is generally well tolerated.
Possible mild side effects include headache, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection, or mild stomach discomfort.
Rarely, it may cause pancreatitis, joint pain, or allergic skin reactions such as rash or swelling.
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or difficulty breathing.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to alogliptin or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney or liver disease, pancreatitis, or heart problems.
This medication is not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Avoid alcohol excess and continue regular blood sugar monitoring.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C in a dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
