Use:
This medication is used to help control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients who are unable to achieve adequate control through diet and exercise alone.
It can be prescribed as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

How it works:
The active ingredient, pioglitazone, enhances the body’s response to insulin by improving sensitivity in muscle, liver, and fat tissues.
It helps the body use insulin more efficiently, reducing insulin resistance and lowering blood sugar levels.
Unlike medications that stimulate insulin release, pioglitazone acts gradually and does not typically cause hypoglycemia when used alone.

Dosage and administration:
The usual starting dose is 15–30 mg once daily, which may be increased by your doctor up to 45 mg once daily depending on your blood glucose response.
It can be taken with or without food, but should be taken at the same time each day for best results.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew it.
Continue using it regularly as prescribed for long-term control of blood sugar.

Side effects:
Glados is generally well tolerated.
Mild side effects may include weight gain, ankle or leg swelling (edema), mild headache, or muscle pain.
Rare but serious effects may include heart failure, liver dysfunction, or bladder problems.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience shortness of breath, dark urine, or sudden swelling.

Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to pioglitazone or if you have heart failure, bladder cancer, or severe liver disease.
Caution is advised in patients with fluid retention, osteoporosis, or a history of fractures.
Regular monitoring of liver function and blood sugar levels is recommended.
Not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
