Use:
This medication is used to control high blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How it works:
The active ingredient, metformin hydrochloride, decreases the amount of glucose produced by the liver and increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
It also reduces glucose absorption from the intestines.
The extended-release (XR) formulation allows the medicine to be released gradually, providing steady control of blood glucose levels throughout the day while minimizing stomach upset.

Dosage and administration:
The usual starting dose is one tablet (1000 mg) once daily, preferably taken with the evening meal to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Your doctor may adjust the dose gradually depending on blood sugar response, up to a maximum of 2000 mg daily.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew it.
