Medication name: Panadol Baby & Infant Paracetamol 120 mg/5 ml – 100 ml Suspension
Drug class: Analgesic and antipyretic (contains paracetamol)
Use: This medication is used in babies and infants to relieve pain such as teething, toothache, and sore throat, and to reduce fever caused by colds, flu, and other childhood infections.

How it works: The active ingredient, paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen), works by blocking chemical messengers in the brain called prostaglandins that are responsible for pain and fever. This helps lower body temperature and relieve discomfort.

Dosage and administration: Shake the bottle well before use. Each 5 ml contains 120 mg of paracetamol. The dose depends on the child’s age and weight. For example, infants aged 3–6 months may take 2.5 ml up to 4 times in 24 hours, leaving at least 4 hours between doses. Children aged 6–24 months may take 5 ml every 4–6 hours, up to 4 times in 24 hours. Do not exceed 4 doses in any 24-hour period. Always use the measuring syringe or spoon provided and consult a doctor if symptoms persist beyond 3 days.

Side effects: Most children tolerate paracetamol well. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing may occur. Very rare but serious skin reactions or liver damage can happen if taken in excessive doses or used for too long.

Precautions: Do not give this medicine if the child is allergic to paracetamol or any of its ingredients. Do not use alongside other paracetamol-containing medicines. Use with caution in children with liver or kidney disease or in cases of severe malnutrition. Some formulations contain sorbitol or maltitol, so children with hereditary fructose intolerance should avoid them. Not recommended for babies under 2 months of age unless advised by a doctor.

Storage: Store below 30 °C, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date. Once opened, use within the period stated on the packaging or patient leaflet.
