What Praziquantel is used for:
Praziquantel is a medicine for treating diseases caused by flukes (anthelmintic drug; trematode medicine).
Praziquantel is used to treat:
diseases caused by flukes (trematodes), such as various species of blood flukes (e.g. Schistosoma haematobium, S. mansoni, S. intercalatum, S. japonicum, S. mekongi), liver flukes (e.g. Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini) and lung flukes (e.g. Paragonimus westermani and other species).
Do not take Praziquantel:
• if you are allergic to Praziquantel
• you have a parasitic infection in your eye
• If you have seizures or any other brain or nervous system problem.
• If you have taken rifampicin within the past 4 weeks.
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
• lumps (nodules) under your skin;
• seizures or epilepsy;
• liver disease;
• heart problems;
• impaired kidney function.
Possible side effects :
These include general ill feeling, headache, dizziness, nausea, stomach discomfort, fever; or rash.
How to take Praziquantel:
Adults:
- Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma intercalatum (blood flukes) 40 mg/kg BW (body weight), divided into 1-2 single doses 1 day
- Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mekongi (blood flukes) 60 mg/kg BW,divided into 2-3 single doses 1 day
- Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini (liver flukes) 75 mg/kg BW, divided into 3 single doses 1-3 days
- Paragonimus westermani and other subspecies (lung flukes) 75 mg/kg BW, divided into 3 single doses 2-3 days
Children and adolescents:
The safety of Praziquantel in children aged under 4 years has not been established.
- Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma intercalatum (blood flukes) 40 mg/kg BW,divided into 1-2 single doses 1 day
- Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mekongi (blood flukes) 60 mg/kg BW, divided into 3 single doses 1 day

How to store Praziquantel:
- Store at room temperature.
- Store in a dry place. Do not store in a bathroom.
