Medication name: Champix 0.5 mg / 1 mg Tablets (25 tablets) contain Varenicline tartrate, a prescription medication used to help adults stop smoking by reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Use: Champix is indicated for smoking cessation in adults.

It helps individuals quit smoking gradually or abruptly by reducing the pleasure derived from nicotine and minimizing withdrawal discomfort.

How it works:
Varenicline works by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain:

• It partially stimulates these receptors, providing mild effects similar to nicotine to reduce cravings and withdrawal.

• At the same time, it blocks nicotine from binding to these receptors, which decreases the rewarding effects of smoking.

Dosage and administration:

• Days 1–3: 0.5 mg once daily.

• Days 4–7: 0.5 mg twice daily.

• Day 8 onward: 1 mg twice daily for the remainder of the 12-week course (as directed by your doctor).

• Take with food and a full glass of water.

• Start treatment 1–2 weeks before the target quit date.

Side effects: Common side effects include nausea, headache, insomnia, abnormal dreams, irritability, and constipation.

Less commonly, mood changes, depression, or anxiety may occur.
