Medication name: Glide Glimepiride 3 mg Tablets × 30
Drug class: Sulfonylurea (oral antidiabetic agent)
Use:
This medication is used to control high blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It is prescribed when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone do not provide adequate glucose control.
Glide may be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic medications or insulin to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
How it works:
The active ingredient, glimepiride, is a sulfonylurea that lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin.
It also improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin and enhances glucose uptake by muscle and fat cells, helping maintain balanced blood sugar levels throughout the day.
By supporting the body’s natural insulin function, it helps prevent long-term complications of diabetes.
Dosage and administration:
The usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily, which may be gradually increased by your doctor based on blood glucose response.
The typical maintenance dose ranges from 1–4 mg daily, taken with or just before breakfast or the first main meal.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew.
Take the medication regularly and do not skip meals to avoid low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Side effects:
Glide is generally well tolerated.
The most common side effect is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), which may cause sweating, dizziness, hunger, trembling, or confusion.
Other mild effects may include headache, nausea, or fatigue.
Rarely, allergic skin reactions, liver enzyme elevation, or visual disturbances may occur.
Seek medical attention if severe hypoglycemia or allergic reactions develop.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, or sulfa drugs.
Avoid alcohol while taking this medication, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney impairment, adrenal problems, or are under physical stress such as infection or surgery.
Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
