Medication name: Hidrasec Racecadotril 30 mg 16 Sachets
Drug class: Antidiarrheal agent (intestinal antisecretory)
Use:
This medication is used to treat acute diarrhea in children and adults.
It helps reduce excessive fluid and electrolyte loss from the intestines, restoring normal stool consistency and preventing dehydration.
It is often used alongside oral rehydration solutions to ensure complete recovery.
How it works:
The active ingredient, racecadotril, works by inhibiting the enzyme enkephalinase in the intestinal wall.
This prevents the breakdown of natural enkephalins, substances that regulate intestinal water and electrolyte balance.
By preserving these enkephalins, racecadotril reduces excessive secretion of fluids into the intestine without slowing bowel movement, ensuring gentle and effective relief from diarrhea.
Dosage and administration:
For children over 3 months and adults, the usual dose is one sachet (30 mg) every 8 hours, preferably before meals, or as directed by a doctor.
Pour the contents of one sachet into a small amount of water, juice, or soft food, mix well, and administer immediately.
Treatment should continue until diarrhea stops, but not for longer than 7 days without medical supervision.
Always use together with oral rehydration fluids to prevent dehydration.
Side effects:
Hidrasec is generally well tolerated.
Occasional mild side effects may include headache, rash, nausea, or stomach discomfort.
Rarely, allergic reactions such as facial swelling, itching, or difficulty breathing may occur—stop use and seek medical attention if these appear.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to racecadotril or any of the ingredients in the product.
Consult a doctor before use in children under 3 months or in patients with chronic diarrhea, high fever, or blood in the stool.
This medicine should not replace oral rehydration therapy, especially in children and elderly patients.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if recommended by a healthcare professional.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Keep sachets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
