Medication name:
Nuvessa 1.3% Vaginal Gel contains Metronidazole (1.3%), an antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent used to treat bacterial infections in the vaginal area.
Each prefilled applicator contains 5 grams of gel for intravaginal use only.

Use:
Nuvessa is used to treat bacterial vaginosis (BV), an infection caused by an imbalance of natural vaginal bacteria.
It helps reduce symptoms such as abnormal discharge, odor, itching, and irritation.

How it works:
Metronidazole works by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis, preventing the growth and multiplication of harmful bacteria responsible for the infection.
This restores the natural balance of healthy bacteria in the vagina and relieves associated symptoms.

Dosage and administration:
The recommended dose is one full applicator (5 g of gel containing 65 mg of metronidazole) applied once daily at bedtime as a single-dose treatment, or as prescribed by your doctor.
Insert the applicator gently into the vagina and empty its contents.
Wash hands before and after use.
Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment and for at least 24 hours after use to prevent reinfection or irritation.

Side effects:
Common side effects may include vaginal itching, mild burning, or discharge changes.
Less common effects include abdominal cramps, metallic taste, or headache.
If you experience severe irritation, allergic reaction, or persistent symptoms, contact your doctor.

Precautions:
For intravaginal use only.
Do not take by mouth.
Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for at least 24 hours after the last dose, as it may cause nausea or flushing.
Do not use if you are allergic to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.
