Itraconazole 100 mg capsules
What Itraconazole is used for:
- It is an azole antifungal, are indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail mainly.
- As well as Itraconazole is indicated for the treatment of the following fungal infections when thought likely to be susceptible:
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis (infection of the vagina)
- Oral candidiasis (infection of the mouth)
Do not take Itraconazole if:
- Hypersensitivity to Itraconazole
- You have heart problems (congestive heart problems)
Warnings & Precautions:
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Itraconazole
- If you have history of heart problems
- If you have liver problems
- If known reduced gastric acidity
- Capsules and Oral Solution should not be used interchangeably.
Possible Side Effects:
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Nausea
Other medicines and Itraconazole:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
- Do not use these drug while taking Itraconazole because of Increased toxicity: cisapride, midazolam, nisoldipine, felodipine, pimozide, quinidine, dofetilide, triazolam, methadone and levacetylmethadol.
- Do not take lovastatin or simvastatin or any HMG CoA reductase inhibitor (any statin) with Itraconazole
- Do not take Ergot alkaloids metabolized by CYP3A4 such as dihydroergotamine, ergometrine (ergonovine), ergotamine and methylergometrine (methylergonovine) with Itraconazole
How to take Itraconazole:
- Adults above 18 years of age:
- The usual dose for onychomycosis Fingernails only: 2 treatment pulses, each consisting of 200 mg (2 capsules) twice a day (400 mg/day) for 1 week.
- The pulses are separated by a 3-week period without Itraconazole.
- Itraconazole capsules should be taken after a full meal
- Separate from taking it with antacids or gastric secretion suppressors.
- It can be taken any time of the day
- Do not break the capsule in half
How to store Itraconazole:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store at Room Temperature [77°F (25°C)].
- Do not store above 30°.
