Medication name: Glacera Pioglitazone 15 mg Tablets × 30
Drug class: Thiazolidinedione (insulin sensitizer / oral antidiabetic agent)
Use:
This medication is used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient.
It helps the body use insulin more effectively and may be prescribed alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.
How it works:
The active ingredient, pioglitazone, increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin by acting on fat, muscle, and liver cells.
It helps these tissues take up glucose more efficiently and decreases glucose production in the liver.
By improving insulin action rather than increasing insulin secretion, pioglitazone provides stable glucose control with a lower risk of hypoglycemia when used alone.
Dosage and administration:
The usual starting dose is 15–30 mg once daily, taken with or without food.
Your doctor may adjust the dose gradually up to 45 mg once daily, depending on your blood sugar response.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew.
It may take several weeks for full benefits to appear, so consistent daily use is important.
Side effects:
Glacera is generally well tolerated.
Possible mild side effects include weight gain, ankle or leg swelling (edema), mild headache, or muscle pain.
Less common but serious effects may include heart failure, liver dysfunction, or bladder problems.
Stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden shortness of breath, dark urine, or unusual fatigue.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to pioglitazone or if you have heart failure, bladder cancer, or severe liver disease.
Regular monitoring of liver function and blood sugar levels is recommended during treatment.
Use with caution in patients with fluid retention or osteoporosis.
Not intended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
