Medication name: Meligliptin Sitagliptin 100 mg Tablets × 30
Drug class: Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor / Oral antidiabetic agent
Use:
This medication is used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It helps lower fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient.
Meligliptin may be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin.
How it works:
The active ingredient, sitagliptin, works by inhibiting the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4).
This enzyme breaks down incretin hormones, which play a key role in regulating insulin and glucagon levels.
By blocking DPP-4, sitagliptin increases incretin activity, leading to higher insulin secretion after meals and reduced glucose production by the liver.
This action helps maintain stable blood sugar levels without significant risk of hypoglycemia or weight gain.
Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is one tablet (100 mg) once daily, taken with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew.
Patients with kidney impairment may require dose adjustments as directed by a doctor.
Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Continue using it regularly along with diet and exercise as part of your diabetes management plan.
Side effects:
Meligliptin is generally well tolerated.
Possible mild side effects include headache, sore throat, or mild digestive upset.
Rarely, it may cause pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), joint pain, or allergic skin reactions such as rash or swelling.
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience persistent abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or difficulty breathing.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to sitagliptin or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver problems, or a history of pancreatitis.
Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Avoid excessive alcohol intake and continue regular monitoring of blood sugar levels.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box.
