Leponex 100 mg 50 Tablets

Medication name: Leponex 100 mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Clozapine, which belongs to the atypical antipsychotic class of medications.

Each pack includes 50 tablets intended for oral use under close medical supervision.

Use: Leponex is used to treat schizophrenia in patients who have not responded adequately to other antipsychotic treatments.

It is also prescribed to reduce the risk of recurrent suicidal behavior in individuals with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

How it works: Clozapine works by blocking dopamine (D₂) and serotonin (5-HT₂A) receptors, as well as other brain receptors, to help restore the balance of neurotransmitters. This action improves mood, thinking, and behavior while reducing hallucinations and agitation.

Dosage and administration: The dosage is individualized and determined by a psychiatrist.

Leponex is usually started at a low dose, which is gradually increased under strict medical supervision.

It should be taken once or twice daily, with or without food.

Regular blood tests are required to monitor white blood cell counts and ensure safe use.

Side effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, increased saliva, rapid heartbeat, weight gain, and low blood pressure when standing up. Serious but rare effects may include decreased white blood cells (agranulocytosis), seizures, and heart rhythm disturbances.

Precautions: Leponex should be used only when other treatments have failed due to its potential for serious side effects.

Regular blood monitoring is mandatory. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis in elderly patients.

Use with caution in those with heart disease, epilepsy, or diabetes.

Avoid alcohol and sedative drugs, and never stop taking the medication suddenly without your doctor’s advice.
