Medication name: Glim Glimepiride 1 mg Tablets × 30
Drug class: Sulfonylurea (oral antidiabetic agent)
Use:
This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It is prescribed when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not sufficient to manage blood sugar.
Glim may be used alone (monotherapy) or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines such as metformin or insulin.
How it works:
The active ingredient, glimepiride, belongs to the sulfonylurea class of oral hypoglycemics.
It works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin and increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, which helps lower blood sugar levels.
It also promotes glucose uptake by muscles and reduces glucose production in the liver, helping maintain stable blood sugar control throughout the day.
Dosage and administration:
The usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily, taken with or immediately before breakfast or the first main meal of the day.
Your doctor may gradually increase the dose based on your blood sugar response, usually up to 2–4 mg daily, and sometimes higher if needed.
Swallow the tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew.
Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully to avoid low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Side effects:
Glim is generally effective and well tolerated.
Common side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), dizziness, headache, nausea, or fatigue.
Rarely, allergic skin reactions, liver enzyme changes, or visual disturbances may occur.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience sweating, tremors, confusion, or palpitations — signs of hypoglycemia.
Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, or sulfa drugs.
Avoid alcohol while taking this medication, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, adrenal insufficiency, or are under severe physical stress.
Not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Storage:
Store below 25 °C, in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Keep tablets in their original packaging until use.
Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date printed on the box
