Use:
This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It is prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes diet and exercise, and it may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

How it works:
The active ingredient, vildagliptin, blocks the enzyme DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4), which normally breaks down incretin hormones.
By inhibiting this enzyme, vildagliptin increases incretin levels, enhancing the pancreas’s ability to release insulin after meals and reducing glucagon secretion.
This helps lower blood glucose levels in a balanced, natural way without promoting excessive insulin release or significant weight gain.

Dosage and administration:
The usual adult dose is 50 mg once or twice daily, depending on the combination therapy:

Monotherapy or with metformin/thiazolidinedione: 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening).

With a sulfonylurea: 50 mg once daily in the morning.
Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding dose and timing.

Side effects:
Jalra is generally well tolerated.
Mild side effects may include headache, dizziness, nausea, or mild digestive upset.
Rarely, elevated liver enzymes, swelling in the hands or ankles, or joint pain may occur.
Seek medical advice immediately if you develop persistent abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe fatigue, as these may indicate liver or pancreatic issues.

Precautions:
Do not use if allergic to vildagliptin or any of the tablet’s components.

Regular liver function monitoring is recommended during long-term treatment.
